Her Safety
Matters.
A nationwide movement for every girl's right to safety, dignity, and opportunity.
A Statement. A Movement.
The Her Safety Matters campaign was officially launched at the NIPA American Corner in Lusaka in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts. It is a nationwide movement raising awareness against gender-based violence, harmful cultural practices, and building safer communities, schools, and digital spaces.
In many parts of Zambia, a girl child faces serious challenges: early pregnancies, school dropouts, gender-based violence, and sexual abuse. GIG exists to change that narrative. This campaign is not just an event — it is a statement. A declaration that her safety is non-negotiable.
The campaign empowers girls to understand their rights, make confident decisions, and support one another — equipping them to speak out against abuse and exploitation.
Today we stand here to say one thing loud and clear. Her safety matters. A girl child safety matters.

Government Commitment
Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, affirmed that safeguarding girls is not only a social obligation but a fundamental human rights issue. He called on all stakeholders to strengthen systems of prevention, response, and support — and to build safer communities, schools, and digital spaces for girls.
"It challenges us to build safer communities, schools, and even digital spaces for our girls."
